Mirth in Mirthless Times: asembl (not so) live #22

You need some mirth in mirthless times.

Join us on Friday, May 8 at 9 o'clock  (Eastern). It's online since we're prohibited from going out. We call it (not so) live. We've got Dan Perlman, Brendan Sagalow & Michael Gelbart!

Here's the main page for the series where you can check out upcoming and past shows.

Or follow us on social media for the same:

not so live

Here's how it works:

  • Hit the "Join the interactive show" button or the "Join the livestream on YouTube" button (though that's much less fun) below at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8 to join. You can RSVP and add to your calendar here or on Facebook.
  • Turn on your microphone and/or camera so we can hear everybody laugh and feel together (also: behave).
  • Our amazing comedians do 10 minute sets each.
  • You laugh a great deal.
  • Donate. We're not putting up a paywall since we want everyone to easily join but we'd appreciate your donating $5 (or more!). Everybody's gigs went poof so a bit of cash would be highly appreciated.

If that doesn't work for some weird reason, our PayPal account is: asembl@about.asemblco.com (paypal.com).

We also accept Venmo (venmo.com, though they're weird about non-personal payments and so PayPal is better). Our account is @Stevan-Nicholas

Now, the comedians. First up is Michael Gelbart.

With appearances on CBS’ The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, Comics Unleashed, Starz, Disney Channel, Teen Nick, Nickelodeon, Lifetime, performances at sold-out clubs and theaters, and two of his own prime time stand-up comedy specials, comedian, screenwriter and author Michael Gelbart is a force to be reckoned with. He has an audience-friendly approach, with material that is completely unique and crowd work that is second to none. His debut novel The Other Oprahs has been called “hilariously inspiring.”

Michael Gelbart started his comedy career in high school and continued through college while majoring in broadcasting. After graduating, he landed his own prime-time CBC special, his first national exposure showcasing his abilities as a performer and writer. A second special followed on CTV/Comedy Network, with both airing on Comedy Central, as well as offers in TV and film. He was a writer and later head writer of the Canadian Screen Awards (formerly the Geminis), wrote dozens of episodes of sitcoms and animated series for Starz, Teen Nick, Cartoon Network, and Disney, while contributing to full seasons as creative consultant and in one case, playing himself as lead guest character. As a screenwriter, he has written five pilots and eight features, four of which have been optioned. He wrote and co-starred in the holiday movie "A Very Cool Christmas" which airs annually on Lifetime. His CDs "Hello Comedy Lovers" and "14 Smash Hits" can be heard frequently on Sirius XM.

Next, Brendan Sagalow.

Prepubescent in both looks and attitude, Brendan Sagalow brings his naturally funny perspective across the country and to all the major elite clubs in Manhattan
Brendan has written for MTV's Joking Off, been a featured guest on many Sirius XM shows, such as The Erik Negal show, The Check Spot Live with Emma Willmann, Jim and Sam, and Bennington on Raw Dog Radio, . Brendan was the winner of the 2015 New York Comedy Club Comedy Competition, and featured in The Rhode Island Comedy Festival in Newport, RI. Skankfest NYC, and Red Clay Comedy Fest in Atlanta Georgia.

And finally, Dan Perlman.

Dan was named one of the 2018 New Faces in stand-up at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. Dan is the co-writer/director/star of the award-winning comedy series, Flatbush Misdemeanors, which became Oscar-qualified after winning the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the 2018 Florida Film Festival. Dan created and wrote an animated series, That's My Bus!, which received a pilot order from FOX. He has appeared on The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show on Netflix, Chris Gethard Presents, and as a cast member on MTV's Vidiots. Dan is a regular guest on SiriusXM's Bennington and You Up? with Nikki Glaser. He also wrote for the 2017-19 WGA Awards, for hosts including Roy Wood Jr. and Lewis Black.

When this is all over, you'll need to go out. And also re-introduce yourself to your friends. asembl makes doing both better. Check it out for all the best things going on and the easiest way to gather a group to do those things with.
